President advises Digitalization of Local Income Department to achieve digital economic goals in 2030

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized the need to install and digitalize the Local Revenue Department (IRD) to achieve digital economic strategic objectives in Sri Lanka by 2030.

The president said this during the discussion held today (08) at the Presidential Office with representatives from institutions like the Local Revenue Department, Digital Finance Ministry and Finance Ministry.

In this discussion, special attention was given on how the existing RAMIS (Revenue Administration Management Information System) system of the Local Revenue Department is maintained and the process of locally acquisition, identifying existing flaws in the RAMIS system, and providing technical solutions for it. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake showed here that digitalization is essential for an efficient tax administration.

The main objectives of this endeavor were discussed here to reduce tax disorder, simplify the tax system, boost tax transparency and introduction of POS (Point of Sale) machines for transactions. This measure is expected to expand the country's tax base and make the tax payment process easier for the public.

Officials of the Local Revenue Department said here that the intervention made by the current government in establishing a digital finance ministry would easily be achieved by the local revenue department.

Digitizing the Local Revenue Department is an important step in the government's entire digitalization program, which is expected to contribute to the economic growth of Sri Lanka.

Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary of Ministry of Finance Dr. Harshana Sooryapperuma, Presidential Chief Advisor on Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, Secretary of Digital Finance Ministry, Ministry of Finance and Local Revenue Department including Varuna Dhanapala, Secretary of Digital Finance, Ministry of Finance and Local Revenue Department were together at the event.
