A special discussion aimed at accelerating Sri Lanka’s overall digital transformation journey was recently held between a delegation led by United Nations Assistant Secretary-General & UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, and UNDP Resident Representative in Sri Lanka, Ms. Azusa Kubota, alongside officials of the Government of Sri Lanka.
Honorable Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Mr. Eranga Weeraratne, Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, and Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy, Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala, participated in the meeting.
The meeting focused extensively on enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure, with primary emphasis on developing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and unlocking new investment opportunities through IFI-financed programs. Furthermore, the progress of the ongoing 'OneRegistry' project, jointly implemented by UNDP and WHO Sri Lanka, was comprehensively reviewed.
Reaffirming UNDP's commitment as the UN's lead agency on digital transformation for sustainable development in Sri Lanka, Ms. Kanni Wignaraja assured continued full support. She further highlighted that UNDP remains committed to strengthening Sri Lanka’s digital future by building on existing digital initiatives under the UN Digital Transformation Offer.
