Steps have been taken to actively restart the Education Co-operative Society (EDCS) digitization project, which was abandoned midway during previous administrations after spending nearly LKR 70 million.
This initiative was discussed at a special meeting held at the Ministry of Digital Economy, co-chaired by the Hon. Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eranga Weeraratne, and the Hon. Deputy Minister of Labour, Mahinda Jayasinghe. During the meeting, it was decided to expedite the implementation of this project under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Digital Economy, utilizing expert assistance from GovTech.
The primary objective of the current administration through this digitization drive is to deliver a faster, more transparent, and efficient service to over 229,000 members of the EDCS.
